Octaphenyl silsesquioxane (POSS) is an organic-inorganic hybrid molecule with a three-dimensional cage structure of 1.5 nm. It combines the high thermal stability and low dielectric constant of the inorganic core with the hydrophobic compatibility of the phenyl shell. As a nanofiller, it can remarkably improve the mechanical properties, flame retardancy and UV resistance of polymers such as polyimide and epoxy resin. It is widely applied in high-performance coatings, electronic encapsulation and aerospace composite materials.
